“A still life, portrait or landscape,
the completion of the painting matters not,
the journey on the path, is the true expression of art”

m. grieve

Marcia Grieve was born and raised in Hollywood, California where art and music were integral parts of her daily life. Her love of painting was inherent. Marcia studied oil painting for 11 years with a protégé of Sergei Bongart, whose teachings were in the Russian Impressionism tradition. The fine art of S. Bongart, as well as the renowned Nicolai Fechin, had a significant impact on Marcia’s development as an oil painter. Through her continuing education she has studied at Pratt Art Center and Kirkland Art Center, classes with renown painters David Leffel and Sherrie MacGraw. She also studied painting and drawing at the University of Oregon and earned a Master’s Degree in Washington.

Bold palettes excite the artist spirit and ignite her imagination. Marcia’s specialty is translating the effects of color and light as they illuminate the subject of her painting. She is fascinated and challenged by the way light strikes a subject and reveals the secrets of color, texture, and soul.

The first painting she submitted to an art competition won first place. She has done commissioned pieces for private collectors in California, Colorado, Montana and Washington. Marcia’s work has been shown at art galleries throughout the Seattle metropolitan area and the Boulder area.

Marcia is an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America.
